How to Wear All Black
How to Wear All Black
“Women think of all colors except the absence of color. I have said that black has it all. ... [Its] beauty is absolute. It is the perfect harmony.” -Coco Chanel
Happy February Loves! I would 'Happy Saturday' or 'Horay for the Weekend', but being sick meant I basically did nothing but sleep the past two days, and I have to work most of today. So, I'm a bit out of sorts and not the most excited to be working when still not feeling great, but it will be nice to be out of our apartment for the first time since Wednesday, and at least I can rest for most of the remainder of the weekend, save grabbing some groceries and church tomorrow morning! They say you need to 'feed a cold and starve a fever', and I can pretty safely say I've fed mine! I believe I've eaten my weight in bagels and pasta the last few days! ;) Praying the new month means the end of my month of colds and stomach bugs! Anyway, onto the style part of this post!
I love wearing the color black. It's long been my favorite color to wear, and seeing me decked out in all black was (and still is) not a rare occurrence as a musician. Not only is it flattering on everyone, it's slimming, elegant, classy, and chic. You really can't ever go wrong wearing black, even to a wedding! I've found myself reaching for black more and more while getting dressed these past few weeks, and have even been wearing all black from time to time. So, I decided to share some of my top tips on how to pull off black on black, while not looking boring or like you're headed to a funeral!
1) Choose Mainly Form-Fitting or Structured Shapes
When dressing completely in black, or any dark or light color, it's important to not look like a massive black cloud. Wearing form-fitting and/or structured pieces is one of the best ways to avoid that! I like to wear skinny-fit jeans on the bottom, and a form-fitting sweater or silk cami tucked in on the top. Top it off with some sort of structured blazer or jacket, and you're set!
2) Mix and Match Textures
Another great way to keep an all-black ensemble interesting is by mixing and matching textures. Play it safe by mixing leather with jeans, silk, and/or knits, or get daring with some sheer lace, velvet and fur! You can get as crazy as you want, and it will still match, since it's all black!
3) Incorporate Pieces with Metal Hardware
I love a good leather bag or pair of shoes with beautiful hardware. Since I often wear jeans with a tucked in blouse or sweater when going all black, a belt is a perfect way to add a bit of luxe. I also like to choose a black jacket, handbag, and black shoes that have metal hardware. They add dimension and sophistication.
4) Wear Interesting Accessories
I used to be a tad OCD about having all of my accessories's hardwares match, but lately, I'm loving mixing metals! Gold and silver paired together looks so luxe and interesting. I'm even mixing in pearls in as well sometimes! I've started picking up jewelry pieces that mix metals as well. I recently found this bracelet at Kendra Scott and think the gold band with the silver druzys is just stunning! A monochrome look is also a great time to wear that statement bag or accessory you love! A streamlined outfit lets it shine that much more!
