My 'Must-Have' In my Fall Skincare Routine

Fall Evening Skincare Routine | Clarins #facetreatmentoil

Happy Tuesday, and last day of October!  It's crazy how fast the first half of fall has flown by!  I'm so excited that the weather has finally consistently felt like fall, and that my favorite sweaters and boots are now on rotation!

With 'sweater weather' officially here, I've changed my skincare routine a bit to combat the dryness that follows the cooling temperatures.  One of the biggest changes I make is upping my hydration game with a product I can't end my fall skincare routine without: a good detoxing/purifying oil.

Keeping your skin hydrated can be extremely tricky when you have acne-prone/oily skin, yet it is essential for balancing and clearing it.  It gets even trickier in the winter, when moisture levels in the air drop with the temperature, but thick creams can often cause breakouts. The solution?  Using a purifying oil.  Most people, and I used to be one of them, think that adding oil to a routine for skin that's already acne-prone/oily will make matters worse...

But the right oil can work wonders for your skin, especially if it's oily and acne-prone.

Oil is nature's perfect moisturizer, and is honestly something everyone should be using in their skincare routines.  A purifying/detox oil is the perfect match for acne-prone/oily skin.  The two main causes of acne are bacteria and over-production of sebum/oil.  Skin over-produces oil when it's dehydrated.  This is why it's so important to be careful when using acne products - they can actually exacerbate acne by over-drying skin!   And why it's important to up your hydration game once sweater weather arrives.  While I do use oils a bit during the warmer months, they become a staple in my everyday skincare routine when the cooler months hit!  (I go more into detail about oils and why they help with acne in this post here if you're interested to learn more)

When adding an oil into your skincare routine, always make sure you use it last.  An oil can penetrate through creams and serums, but other products can't penetrate through it.  If you're using anti-again products and such, they need to be applied prior to your oil if they're going to penetrate your skin and work their magic.  It's also important to make sure your oil is 100% plant-based.

I've been using Clarins Lotus Face Treatment Oil and love how it combats acne while keeping my skin soft and hydrated.  It has Hazelnut Oil (which has the added benefit of being rich in Vitamin E!) to hydrate and nourish, Sage to balance oil production, and Lotus, Geranium, & Rosemary extracts to purify and kill bacteria.  These ingredients also minimize pores and smooth skin, which I've been absolutely loving!

I love using Clarins products because I know that as pioneers in plant-science and technology, they're creating top quality products that actually make a difference in my skin.  I also love how much they care about aromatherapy.  You guys know how much I adore candles, and part of that is because I know how much aroma can effect my mood and stress-levels.  The Lotus Face Treatment Oil has the most pleasant and calming herbal scent.  It helps me relax as I prepare for bed, and makes my evening skincare routine something I look forward to!

Bisous,

Laurelle
