Ruffles and the most Sophisticated of Accessories
There's something comforting and smile-inducing about a good pair denim. While most of my favorite pairs are very basic ones (versatile, softened from wear, slightly distressed), I'm really loving pushing my boundaries and wearing denim with pearls and other fun details like the ruffles on this pair. But whether the details are statement making, or as simple as a raw hem, I love classic pieces that have some sort of twist... something to make them interesting and unique.
I'm probably drawn to pieces like that because they embody how I like to dress. Jeans & a blouse, usually paired with pumps and a blazer, is my near-daily uniform. But I try to have it always be anything but boring with twists details like an all-velvet blazer, a unique color, or distressed/embellished elements.
It's also why I was so drawn to Vivienne Hu's designs when I first came across them. I love how she takes classic shapes & silhouettes and puts her own unique twist on them. I fell in love with the pieces from her AW16 and SS17 collections I was able to try on, especially the classic strapless gown I ending up picking to wear to her show. Such a beautiful, classic shape elevated by the voluminous skirt with the hemline coming up high in the front and gorgeous muted Cinderella-blue color. (photo here)
The feminine, structured pieces she premiered on the runway this fall for next spring were just as gorgeous. Dress pants with bell bottoms that had sheer fabric or slits, masculine suit cuts & fabrics mixed with ruffles, and cutouts or sheer fabric in unexpected places are just some of the ways she made the collection eye-catching and unique while still maintaining a very classic and sophisticated feel.
While I shared the dress and a few snaps of her SS18 collection during and after fashion week, I didn't get to share with you her new accessories line which is now live on her website! The pieces premiered on the runway with her SS18 line, but are classic, versatile pieces (with a twist) that can be worn year round.
Vivienne Hu's accessories line offers shoes, bags, and eyewear, and many of the styles come in 2-3 colors. I love these black patent leather pumps and the cut-out illusion the clear sides give. While I styled them more casually, they are so versatile... they pair beautifully with business casual or dressy looks. I also love this tote, which is spacious enough to carry my laptop, yet doesn't look big or bulky. It's perfect for going to coffee-shops or meetings, and looks so luxe with it's buttery-smooth Avanti leather. And how cool is the shape of these sunglasses?! It was so hard to choose just one pair, but I loved how unique these were! You can check out all of her other accessories as well as er beautiful clothing here.
Thank you for reading, and to Vivienne Hu for the beautiful pieces from her collection; they're on repeat to be sure! Hope you guys enjoyed and have the loveliest of Saturdays!
Bisous,
Laurelle
