NYFW Highlights Days 1 & 2 — Backstage with Mary Kay for Nicole Miller
Highlights from Days 1 & 2
It’s hard to believe how fast NYFW flew by! What a crazy week! So many highs, and a few rough patches, but overall, I’m so grateful to have attended! I used to do daily recaps for fashion week, but I think this time I’m going to summarize a bit more and focus on the highlights, making the posts more efficient for us all! I hope you guys enjoy and get inspiration and recommendations that you love!
Day #1
After fittings and enough time in the sun to be drenched in sweat (sorry for that visual), I finally made it to a few fun NYFW parties! The best part of the day was definitely the AE party and Bea Miller’s performance… if you haven’t heard her music, definitely look her up! She is so down-to-earth and relatable, plus her voice is stunning! I currently have her playing as I write, and it’s set such a great mood for some alone/writing time!
Day #2
Thursday started off with an amazing gifting suite with some of my favorite brands! I can’t believe some of the incredible goodies I got…
After that, I went to a styling suite that Redken & Essie were hosting to get my hair styled. I rarely ever like when other people do my hair, but wow. Spencer (@spencerhenry) did an incredible job!!! I loved my curls and they wore so well over the night and next day till I had them done by him again!
Tadashi Shoji
Next was Tadashi Shoji. What a stunning show! Had to give a little mention of this one because of all sequin dresses that were so, so stunning. I’ve definitely caught the sequin bug lately but have loved that so many of the shows have had pieces sporting them. I am now on the hunt for more sequin pieces to spice up my wardrobe.
Nicole Miller & Backstage with Mary Kay
In the evening was one of my favorite shows and designers from NYFW, Nicole Miller. I had the pleasure of going backstage with Mary Kay and so enjoyed seeing Mary Kay Global Beauty Ambassador Luis Casco’s work again! The makeup look for the show was inspired by the 80’s, focusing on a bold, smoky eye and highlighting it with a soft, fluffy brow and otherwise natural makeup.
I had the chance to test out the makeup before the show in my hotel and I am still using and enjoying the key products from the look. The brow looks were achieved using Mary Kay’s brand-new Volumizing Brow Tint and Precision Brow Liner. The Volumizing Brow Tint plumps and fluffs, is incredibly versatile and can be used to really play up the brows – depending on how dark you go and how much you use. The Precision Brow Liner fills in wherever you may need, and I love how the consistency is just soft enough to glide on easily without breaking off when applied.
The brow products were definitely two of my favorites that I’m still enjoying, but I’m also loving Mary Kay’s Timewise Matte-Wear Liquid Foundation. It has a beautiful finish that looks fresh and lasts/wears very well throughout the day. I’m also loving and wearing the Gel Semi-Shine Lipsticks. Naturally Buff is my favorite color, and I love how smoothly it applies!
The hair for the show was very natural, but also very fun… loose waves, brushed out to add texture and volume, which tied in so well with the beauty look, especially the brows. Oribe’s Mystery Restyling Spray was used to loosen the model’s hair from any other shows they might have had and make restyling a breeze. The nails were also very fun, but with a funky, 80’s twist. Check out the hot pink flames and black checks:
I always love getting to see the shows after being backstage and learning about the inspiration for the hair, nails, and makeup and seeing how it ties in with the collection. Nicole’s shows are always so incredibly fun!Her style is so edgy and bold, mixing prints and textures in daring ways, while still maintaining a beautiful, feminine element. These were my favorite looks from the runway:
As you can see, sequins are going strong, especially sequined prints. I didn’t get a good snap of another favorite look of mine, but it was a sequined denim jacket that was just stunning, as it looked like the sequins and denim were one. I was also excited to see leopard print in the collection as well as army print! They’re such a fun way to spice up a look! I can’t wait to get my hands on some of the pieces next season!
